For Toyota, September was its third worst sales decline since at least 1980. “The best thing about September is that it’s over,” said Don Esmond, senior vice president of automotive operations for Toyota Motor Sales USA. On a daily selling rate basis, Toyota’s sales dropped 29.5% in September. The only months worse than that were in July 1987 and January 1987 when Toyota’s sales dropped 32% and 31% respectively, said Bob Carter, group vice president and general manager of Toyota’s U.S. sale

If Obama can manage to win just one of the eight states currently listed as "tossups," as well as all the other states in which he's currently leading by five points or more, he'll be guaranteed victory. Bad news for John McCain- Obama is currently leading in six of them.

Gawker Media lays off 19 writers at Valleywag, Consumerist

Nick Denton of Gawker Media announced that he is laying off 19 people in anticipation of a downturn in advertising next year. He also suspended a program that paid writers a bonus for attracting a lot of readers to their posts. In other news, the company is also hiring 10 new people.
